Every time when we mention there is a student activity of golf, students always get so ecstatic. Well, it is understandable, as Golf in China is titled the "Noble Sport" due to the high expense of the Golf course along with purchasing green fees, renting the clubs and carts. Many of the international students couldn't imagine how widespread golf is in the Cape Breton area. In fact, as the second most popular sport, golf is a very well liked activity in all social classes of Cape Breton. Whenever there is leisure time, people always like to gather together at the golf course, playing golf while chatting and socializing with each other.
On a sunny afternoon, Jack from the Student Service Department drove several students to one of the most famous golf courses in Cape Breton, Lingan Golf and Country Club, which is located across the street from Cape Breton University. Lingan Golf Course has hosted numerous major golf tournaments in previous years. Also, Lingan is a special partner of Cape Breton University's alumni association. The golf professional for Lingan taught our students, one by one, the fundamentals of golf, for example how to grip the club properly. Though most of the students played golf just as shoveling snow, with practice most of the students did much better. They all burst into laughter enjoying each other's successes playing this demanding sport. FORE!
In a blink of an eye, a couple hours had past; this was the first time most of the new students held the heavy metal golf clubs. Furthermore, they all experienced aches and pains in their backs, shoulders, and pride. Actually, golf requires a high level of coordination in body movement and hand-eye coordination. While playing golf, it is believed that exercise, by properly playing golf, will enhance the human body's physical fitness and coordination.
After "working so hard" for the whole afternoon, the group from CBLC under the direction of Student Services went to a Chinese restaurant for a delicious dinner.
The golf experience is one of the activities that the school has always been consistently sponsoring through Student Services for new and present students. If you want to give golf a try, be sure to take advantage of Cape Breton's most beautiful summer. Also there are many entertaining activities besides golf, to enjoy in the sun, and cool summer breeze of this picturesque island.
